Teamwork: “Coming together is the beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is success.” – Henry Ford
One of the lessons from this past weekend’s game was pointed out by Niagara Storm Defensive Line Coach, Brian Hutchings, as he called each of the Junior Varsity team members together for a badly-needed pep-talk. As a former professional football player in the Canadian Football League (CFL), Coach Hutchings knows a thing or two about what it takes to be successful in the sport of football.
“It’s not enough to be a group of outstanding young athletes [something that the Niagara Storm have plenty of] if you’re only going to play out on that field as a group of individuals,” said Hutchings.
With each player seemingly attempting to come up with that “big” play all on his own, Coach Hutchings was quick to point out and remind his players that every team has a system, and it takes teamwork to ensure that that system is being carried out properly.
All players must learn to play as teammates, and they accomplish this by first trusting that each of their teammates will carry out their own specific set of responsibilities.
“So long as each individual is doing exactly what they need to do,” added Hutchings, “then the team will unify and play together with a much greater purpose.”
Remember: Teamwork is everything. Together Everyone Achieves More.
