UFC Fighter Nate Diaz: Everyone in the UFC is on Steroids

Are you ready for one of the worst interviews ever (on both sides of the microphone)?

I seriously can’t wait to hear UFC President Dana White’s reaction (squirm, baby, squirm!) to the latest allegations by Nate Diaz in his recent interview, which stated that all UFC fighters are currently using steroids.

.
Interviewer: “What’s your opinion of the Silva-Sonnen fight after the allegations of steroid use?”

Nate Diaz: “No opinion. It’s not a surprise—not that [Sonnen] was on steroids, but all these guys are on steroids. So, it can’t be surprising when someone pops up on steroids, ya know? It usually should be a surprise when people aren’t on steroids.”

Interviewer: “Super cool.”

.
Wow…super cool, eh?

Odd reaction by the guy doing the interview.

I doubt that he was even paying attention. He was probably too busy reading his next pre-designed “close-ended” question.

In any event, here’s a news flash for him and anyone else that thinks the same—if Diaz’s claim that everyone in the UFC is taking steroids, turns out to be even remotely close to the truth, then that is anything but “super cool.”

That type of reality could not be worse for the sport of MMA.

Feeling a bit sceptical?

“No way” would Diaz be that dumb (or high)?

Sadly…it’s true.

Believe it or not, I actually feel kinda bad for Nate Diaz here. Either he was too stoned or too stupid to even realize that he may have just committed career suicide.

Or maybe the kid is just fearless and doesn’t give a crap?

Or maybe he’s just jealous of everyone else’s manly physique since he got stuck with the body of “Olive Oil” from the old Popeye cartoons?

I honestly don’t know.

But don’t be surprised if Dana White gives Diaz his walking papers after this little embarrassment.

Good thing the truth doesn’t hurt, right Mr. White?

My suggestion—keep sweeping the problem under the rug. I’m sure the worst is over with.

Holy shit, Nate looks and sounds like absolute SHIT. He’s never been an eloquent or articulate speaker by any means, but this was just embarrassing on so many levels.

It didn’t help matters that the idiot doing the interview had about as much personality and professionalism as a sack of potatoes.

I realize that he probably had something like 5 minutes to get in there and ask questions from a sheet of paper, but “Cool” is not a response, “Super” is not a response. White-knuckling the mic in a death grip is not how it’s done.

“Super cool” is DEFINITELY not a response to something as huge as the statement that “all these guys are on steroids”.

It’s unfortunate that with all the technology that’s available, any John Doe with some spare cash laying around can go run around and claim to be a “journalist” and do illegitimate interviews.

This interview has some serious potential to ruin Nate’s career and add an unnecessary black mark on MMA as a sport on the whole.

Granted, what Nate said was extremely stupid, but so is the idiot shoving the mic in his face.

Diaz is a dumb punk. I take anything he says with a grain of salt. Maybe with the help of Jose Canseco he’ll write a book on this issue. Funny thing is, that’s not the worst interview I’ve seen with him. Super cool.

  4. Tito says:

Cocky dumb fighter and dumber interviewer. Diaz talks like he pretend he is high. Mumbling like a noob. Super cool eh?

  5. Spencer says:

Diaz is a punk and annoying, but he isn’t going to be released. Please, dude.

  6. Ian says:

“maybe he’s just jealous of everyone else’s manly physique, since he got stuck with the body of “Olive Oil” from the old Popeye cartoons?”

That definitely got me laughing. I’m not the biggest fan of the Diaz brothers, I think they’re a bunch of mumbling punks who can’t accept blame. I don’t know if I want to believe what he’s saying, knowing the Diaz brothers, he’s probably high as a kite. Those Diaz brothers aren’t the most reputable of fighters either, Nick has skipped out on a drug test and a fight in the past because he was hitting the bong a little too much (for “medicinal” purposes I’m sure) and they (along with teammate Gilbert Melendez) instigated that brawl during the post-fight interview at Strikeforce: Nashville.

  7. BR says:

I’m glad Nate Diaz spoke on the steroid situation. It isn’t fair to the “real” fighters who are actually putting in work to be the best. Imagine if Shane Carwin beat Brock Lesnar and then the steroid scandal he’s caught up in came out. That would have been a devastating blow to the UFC.

If you want to watch “juiced up” guys go at it then just go watch wrestling.

  8. LF says:

Everyone in the UFC may well be on something, but the test they do are like spelling your name right on the SAT…if you manage to F— that up you deserve whatever is coming to you

  9. Angel says:

Can you tell the interviewer’s frustration with his attitude?

  10. Brandon says:

Who knows, Diaz may be right. I certainly hope not, but you never know. But it certainly begs the question of how he knows it. I say to avoid the whole mess, test before and after. Can’t be that tough a thing to pull off, even for the government lol.

  11. Trevor says:

This isn’t Olympic style testing, Idiots like Chael Sonnen get caught with steroids, if you knew anything about steroid use you would know that many of these modern steroids are un-detectable with urine analysis. Many of these steroids are only detectable via blood testing. What’s gonna happen when someone dies in the ring and the fighter test positive. We’re not talking about breaking a home run record because of steroids, these are questions that need to be asked. Nate Diaz isn’t the first fighter to make claims like this. UFC veteran Dennis Hallman over the summer stated that at least half of MMA fighters are juicing. Fans can continue to hide this issue but two of the recent UFC title fights, fighters have tested positive or shown up in some type of steroid report (Chael Sonnen & Shane Carwin). Maybe it’s a combination of Dana White and the fact that many fight fans don’t care about the integrity of the sport.

  12. derek says:

Honesty isn’t always the best policy regarding the reputation of your league or brand. Nate Diaz is kinda like the Charles Barkley of the UFC. Brash and willing to say anything. Alot of the fighters are on stuff in the lower organizations so they can build up to the UFC or Strikeforce.

  13. MA says:

Wow, everyone is just beating up on Diaz for telling it like it is. You’d be hard pressed to find a single sport (outside of Skateboarding / other X-Games) that doesn’t have participants that use some type of PED. Not all PEDs outrageously alter your physique. There’s so many different types out there and they are becoming increasingly more difficult to detect. “Steroids” have come a long way from the Lou Ferrigno days. With that being said… I totally believe Nate and its funny that people hate him for keeping it real. I wouldn’t use the word “everyone”, but I know there’s multiple fighters that are using “supplements” in hopes of gaining the edge and keeping their stuff under the radar. Sonnen certainly wasn’t the first to get caught… and will not… be the last. Live with it.
While we’re still on Nate, let me say that I also agree with his reasoning for not tapping gloves or “wishing good luck” to his opponent. Why am I wishing good faith to this guy who wants to violently bash my face in? Its a “fight” for God’s sake. That’s kinda like thanking the person who shot you. “Wow, what a great shot you are!” Not everyone can be like GSP and be the athlete/gentleman. That would be ideal, but not likely.
I like how everyone is tripping about Nate smoking herbs while they’re puffing on fatties themselves, hitting cigarettes, or drinking liquor and brewskies. Kinda like B-Real pointing fingers at Snoop Dogg. I’ve been told that we watch this stuff to see fighters fight. Can Nate fight? Yes. Leave the poor guy alone.

  14. David says:

I think he deserves some repercussion. There is a right way to give feedback to the UFC and damaging their reputation in the media is biting the hand that feeds you.

  15. Esa T says:

I’d be shocked if less than 50% of UFC fighters are not on steroids or HGH. The sport revolves around explosive strength and quick recovery and a lot of fighters live in countries where you can simply walk into a “pharmacy” and buy it OTC. Cycle on, before your fight cycle off, then get urine tested. IMO, all professional sports need to be Olympic-style drug testing or this topic WILL NOT go away. The reason it hasn’t been adopted is because so many pro athletes would fail you may not have enough athletes to field teams. Urine testing should begin in high school athletics and increase to Olympic-style testing once the athlete is getting paid.

  16. Ariana says:

This is a sport that has been trying to improve it’s image and fan base ever since the beginning. The words of wisdom from Nate Diaz are definitely slowing down the process. The media needs to stay away from both of the Diaz brothers.
